KANSAS CITY (Today) - Six 39th Street merchants announce the formation of the 39th Street Artwalk. The first 39th Street Artwalk will occur Saturday August 24th from 6:00 PM til 10:00 PM at the following venues:

Prospero's Books
1800 W. 39th Street, KCMO, 64111
816.531.9673
www.prosperosbookstore.com

The Crave Café
1615 W. 39th Street, KCMO, 64111
816.931.5282

Long recognized as one of Kansas City's most vibrant artistic communities, the 39th Street Artwalk is the first effort by area, independent businesses to coordinate a night of art openings. The August Artwalk is only the first in what organizers plan to be an ongoing series of monthly art openings. In addition to presenting original works of painting and photography, participating venues will provide a selection of refreshments and music.

"The 39th Street Artwalk offers art enthusiasts a unique opportunity to view and mingle with some of our city's finest artists while enjoying the shopping and one-of-a-kind dining that has made 39th Street a destination spot," said Jim Svetlecic owner of The Pedestrian Gallery at State of the Art.

"The 39th Street community is home to so many skilled painters and photographers that a coordinated effort to bring their work before the public only makes sense," said Kim Oursler of Sacred Earth Arts.

"Each week there are poetry readings, live music and art openings all along 39th Street," noted Will Leathem of Prospero's Books and an initial organizers of the Artwalk. "We already have commitments from more merchants wanting to join this celebration of Kansas City's finest artists. Just wait till next month!"

Participating artists include: Kara Werner, Jennifer Johnson and Alex Fox (painting) at Prospero's Books; Annie Montgomery (photography) at The Crave Café; Noelle Stoffel, Michelle Giele, and Madeline Ann Scott (painting) at Scott Fitness; Clint Downing (photography) at The Pedestrian; Heidi Gutknecht (multi media) at the Center for Spiritual Living; and Regina Coppernole (fired clay & handmade paper) at Sacred Earth Arts.
