Liz Gardner
Fabrics
My
interest in textiles stems from weaving, knitting,
dyeing, sculpting, and other textile techniques.
These processes allow me to work in a loose, intuitive,
and unrestricted manner. I enjoy pushing textile
techniques beyond tradition with the use of unconventional
materials. Objects have a life cycle similar to
that of humans. Although they eventually decay
and erode, they will always have a significant
history. I as an artist feel compelled to hold
onto these found materials and create a new history
and future for them.

coaxed from the collective unconscious, these

The
art I produce is a peek into my soul, it's the creative
presence of conformed thoughts and bleeding emotions enhanced
by God-given talent received at birth. To influence the
viewer and control their emotions, without breathing a
word, is my main objective. Then I know I have communicated
with them successfully.
It's
always surprising and rewarding when other people explain
my art to me. Their explanation and mine are never the
same. That's why art is so fascinating, there are no boundaries
for the creative mind and you'll find yourself exploring
art as your mind explores itself.

Painted
Journeys
My
paintings invite you to look deeper within, and
walk the path of your imagination and dreams to
access your own connections, inner peace, empowerment,
healing and possibilities. With each painting I
set the intent to connect with something greater...with
Spirit. Creating a painting is, for me, as much
an artistic process as it is an intuitive process.
As I paint, it's like intuitive channels open more
& more within me. Sometimes I do not even consciously
know why i'm painting a certain image, color or symbol
but in the end it all makes sense or the person
I've painted it for shares with me some significance
it has for them.

Art of the Unspeakable
When I started painting as a young kid, it was
a way for me to create a landscape in which to escape - a
way for me to express emotion - similar to what most kids
do, I suppose. That was my creative drive for a while.
Then I began to view
painting as experiments, the paint and my creativity being
variables and the canvas being the constant. These are experiments
in light and color and texture and line, mixing materials
not normally mixed together, combining different styles in
one painting. This is my creative drive now- experimentation
- collaboration - exploration of the visual field.

Photography
Black & white photography is my passion,
and I enjoy the nitty-gritty aspects of it. So I do it all myself.
From taking the pictures, to developing most of the film, to making
the final prints, it's all under my control. I believe the quality
of my work speaks for itself.
My
photographs are printed, by me, on real silver-halide black & white
photographic paper. This paper has a very long tonal scale and can
produce beautiful images. It can also be toned, enhancing both its
look and permanence.

Connie
Gurley
ceramics
with feminine form
My work is
influenced by trees, church architecture, and ancient images such
as Chinese bronzes and the stone image of the goddess of Willendorf.
To me, these images symbolize growth and decay, change and intractability,
aging and self-acceptance. The spirituality that comes forth in
these images is living and rooted in the earth yet reaching for
something beyond the ordinary. As an individual I am rooted in my
spirituality and my family while I am also reaching for the stars.
Working in clay is my attempt to stay grounded and whole among the
chaos of life. Through clay I touch the creatively earthy, feminine
core of my being. It humbles me and brings me peace as I express
the energy and fullness I find in life.

of sculpture and painting. I choose large format work due to the
limits of the materials i use and in because I am seeking a sense
of physical gravity in my painting. I would prefer to work in even
larger formats, but the weight of the materials is self-limiting.
I am drawn to the human form with each of my paintings finding their
roots in individuals of my personal acquaintance...

My inspiration in a work
of art is primarily spiritual, and I feel that a completed painting
is imbued with a life of its own. Symbolically, colors play an important
role and provides me an avenue of expression. I begin a painting
by applying color at random, then focus On it to see what images
are revealed. I continue the Process until the painting is complete.

Andrew
Gabler
I
have been taking art classes ever since I can remember. One of the
first things I remember as a 5 year old was going to a class where
we would sing and dance and imagine we were trapped in boxes.
My
mom brought home a square of red dirt called clay. She taught me
how to make pinch pots and bowls with lids. She also taught me how
to put handles to these bowls without them falling off or being
brittle.
In
elementary school, I fell head-over-heels with Mrs. Brokaw. She
always let me do what I wanted in class and taught me there were
no limitations to creativity and imagination.
Later
on in high school, I was introduced to one of my favorite habits;
photography. Nine years later, my relationship with photography
is still strong and has grown with time and awesome instructors.
There is still so much I want to learn and explore with this medium.
Of all the ways I have tried to express myself, it is my favorite.

"Momentary Season"
Over the last nine years, my art has been following a steadily
evolving path in which one idea leads to another. My work started
with a common idea in photography and amongst photographers. The
elevation of the ordinary. As a photographer, you are always looking
at the world around you trying to find an image... These photographs
display diagrams on how I interpret the human mind. It is layered
with some confusion as some things fade and some things come forward.
With time it is constantly changing. It is very much a personal
ritual, like a diary. It also comments on one of the most common
uses of the photograph, to hold on to memories and never to forget.

Susan Prout
My name is Susan Prout.
In 1995 I was a busy mother with four children and just becoming
aware of my spirituality. During this time I was able to take
a short spiritual retreat to a sacred site in Northwest Missouri.
While at the site, I had for lack of a better word a "vision".
Before my eyes was a moving geometric forms in a rainbow of colors,
starting with red and gradually moving through to white. I tried
to explain this to my friends but to no avail.
About ten
days later, another geometric form appeared while I was in dream
state. Upon awakening, I attempted to sketch this luminous design
with a lead pencil and white paper, but found that it just did not
convey the wonderful moving shapes I was seeing before my eyes.
Much to my husband's surprise, I went to the art store and bought
some expensive art supplies to express my vision. I then started
to draw these designs on black paper. I
continued to draw as I saw new images for the next year and a half.
This is the "Visions from the Void" series.

Painting
is the main focus of my life. I have explored many concerns and
directions in my work. Line and form, relationship of objects, play
of light, plasticity of color and relationship of painting to surface
are some of my long term painterly concerns. At the root of my work
is spirit moving through me. My imagery is often about unfolding,
becoming, metamorphosis, peeling layers of light and consciousness-blooming.
